India nourished several medals in the CWG 2022, even after days of excellency.
The Commonwealth Games 2022 started on 28th July with Perry the Bull. This time Birmingham, located in Britain, was the host of the event, supporting a showcase of every country’s brightest talent.
With the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth games ending today, India has survived the event with golden results. Be it badminton, wrestling or athletics, our country has squeezed as many medals as possible.
With more than half-century medals, these performers have represented even the last days in CWG 2022 as India’s best days in CWG 2022 in the following sports_
Table Tennis
Informally called the Ping-pong game, Table tennis is a sport loved by each Indian citizen. Established in 1926, the Table Tennis Federation of India has never disappointed, creaming the best talent throughout the masses.
This year, these Indian Table players have gained our country’s pride in the CWG 2022-
● Sharat Kamal
Born in a family of Table Tennis players, Achanta Sharat Kamal was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. At the tender age of 4, Sharat’s career was induced in his mindset by his father and his Uncle.
In his table tennis career, he has seen victory since CWG 2002 selection, where he bagged National Games of India. Since then, he has had an ITTF world ranking of 32, breaking Kamlesh Mehta’s record.
Sharat has outperformed in several CWG gold medals since 2004, getting him awards like Padma Shri, India’s Fourth highest civilian recognition.
In the Commonwealth Games 2022, Sharath Kamal won gold with six 11s in the men’s singles category, defeating Liam Pitchford of England. Apart from that victory, he has also achieved gold in the mixed doubles while performing with Sreeja Akula and silver in men’s doubles with Sathiyan Gnansekaran.
● Sreeja Akula
A native of Hyderabad, Sreeja Akula is an Indian Table tennis player. She has a career playing in events like the State Table Tennis Championships, South Asian games and much more.
In the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth games, Sreeja partnering Sharat won the gold medal in mixed doubles.
● Sathiyan Gnansekaran
Ranked 38th in the world, Sathiya Gnansekaran is a native of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Sathiya is currently an employee of ONGC, where he once ranked 24th in the world, the highest achieved by any Indian.
He has played many events like Junior World Championship, Japanese T-league and much more, due to which he has received Arjuna Award 2018.
In the CWG 2022, Sathiyan won bronze in the single category and silver, partnering with Sharat in Men’s doubles.
Boxing
Boxing is an old established game, added in the 1930s in the CWGs.
Monitored by the governing body of the Boxing Federation of India, Boxing in India has produced famous personalities like Mary Kom and Vijender Singh.
In CWG 2022, these boxing legends have made our nation proud –
● Amit Panghal
A native of Haryana, Amit Panghal is military personnel and an Indian boxer. Born in a family of farmers, Amit took up boxing in 2007 at Sir Chhoturam Boxing Academy.
Currently employed as a junior commissioned officer, Amit is in the Mahar Regiment. He has represented India in events like the 2018 CWG and 2017 AIBA World World Boxing Championship.
Currently, in the CWG 2022, Amit Panghal has surpassed Kiaran MacDonald of England by winning gold.
● Nitu Ghanghas
Borm in Bhiwani, Haryana, Nitu Ghanghas is an Indian boxer. She has a boxing career as twice the world youth Champion in Light flyweight.
In the CWG 2022, Nitu Ghana’s won gold in the minimum-weight boxing category in the Commonwealth Games.
● Nikhat Zareen
A native of Telegana, Nikhat Zareen is an Indian boxer trained under her first coach, her father, Mohammad Jammal Ahmed. Further, she had her training under the Sports Authority of India under Dronacharya Awardee IV Rao.
Nikhat has a record of winning five gold and two silvers while employed under the Bank of India since 2021. In the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth games, she defeated Carly McNaul and won gold in the light flyweight category.
