Apple plans to begin manufacturing the new iPhone 14 in India around two months after it is initially made available from China, bridging the gap in production between the two countries.
Reportedly, Apple will start producing the forthcoming iPhone 14 series in India. The Apple analyst at the time also claimed that the action had an emphasis on how Apple was preparing to diminish its reliance on China and that it saw India as a crucial growth area.
Make In India initiative
India has become a manufacturing hotspot because of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign slogan, “Make in India.” The iPhone 13, iPhone 12, and iPhone 11 are already produced domestically by Apple. The production of the iPhone 14 at roughly the same time as China is anticipated to be the next significant achievement in the nation’s developing manufacturing capabilities.
The company has been working with suppliers to enhance manufacturing in India and shorten the typical six to nine-month production lag for new iPhone launches, as per the sources with knowledge of the issue.
Multiple forces at work
Apple, which has historically made the majority of its iPhones in China due to disputes with the US government and state-wide lockdowns enacted by Xi Jinping’s administration, which have hampered economic activity, is searching for alternatives.
Prior to that, the United States was considering restricting supplies of American chipmaking equipment to Chinese memory chip manufacturers in an effort to curb China’s advancements in the semiconductor industry and protect American businesses.
The action, if carried out by US President Joe Biden’s administration, may potentially affect South Korean memory chip giants Samsung Electronics Co Ltd & SK Hynix Inc.
The report claims that Foxconn, an Apple supplier with headquarters in Taiwan, has researched how to transfer goods from China and put the iPhone 14 together at one of its plants outside of Chennai. The source further stated that the first Indian-made iPhone 14s is likely to be finished in late October or early November.
Apple CEO Tim Cook stated, “We saw June quarter revenue records in both established and emerging economies, with extremely strong double-digit growth in Brazil, Indonesia, and Vietnam, and a near doubling of revenue in India.”
The tech giants are reportedly in talks for the production of the Apple Watch and MacBook for the first time in Vietnam.
Apple is planning its new flagship iPhone 14 launch event in early September to announce next-generation iPhones, the Watch Series 8, and other apple products and services. Sources claim that September 7 may be the day that the iPhone 14 is made available.
