What happens when the one thing you need is also something you can’t have? The majority of us will be depressed or discouraged. Sudha Chandran , on the other hand, is not one of them. Her narrative motivates you to the very top.
A Star Is Born
On September 27, 1965, Sudha Chandran was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, to a middle-class family. She was born and raised in Mumbai.
Sudha Chandran’s father, K.D. Chandran worked at the American Library in Mumbai, while her mother, Thangam, was a homemaker.
Thangam, a classical singer from a Brahmin household, was introduced to dance.
She aspired to be a dancer but could not do so due to her family’s numerous constraints. Dance was also not a high priority during her period.
Motivated to do well in school
Sudha Chandran’s grades were significant to her, and she always wanted her to be at the top of her class.
Sudha Chandran’s mother emphasized the value of education by comparing it to a blank check that can be paid during one’s life.
Sudha Chandran is a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Industrial and International Economics postgraduate.
A life-altering mishap
Sudha Chandran and her family traveled from Tiruchirappalli to Chennai in May 1981 when they were involved in a car accident.
She was 15 years old and had a right leg fracture.
Sudha Chandran and her family were hospitalized for four days at a local government hospital.
Sudha Chandran’s hopes of being a dancer were shattered when she lost her leg and realized she couldn’t dance anymore, and she became pretty discouraged as a result.
Thankfully, her mother consoled and inspired her, causing her to focus on something other than her condition and teaching her to be optimistic about her future.
There’s a glimmer of hope
When she returned to Mumbai, she wrote a letter to Pramod Karan Sethi (P. K. Sethi), a co-inventor of the Jaipur Foot, thanking him for his work and asking him to meet him.
Sudha Chandran was invited to Jaipur by P. K. Sethi, and when she arrived, she asked him if it was feasible to dance while wearing a prosthetic leg, and he said yes.
She was supplied with an artificial limb within 12 hours.
Sudha Chandran could get back on her feet and walk because of the Jaipur Foot.
Sudha Chandran then returned to Mumbai, where she studied dance from 1981 to 1984.
The Rise Of A Star
She used to spend 18-20 hours every day practicing dance.
Sudha Chandran endured a lot of pain, bleeding, discomfort, and worry throughout that time, but she stayed focused on her goal of dancing.
Sudha Chandran performed in front of an audience for the first time on January 28, 1984.
Even though she was well prepared, she was first worried about performing in front of a thousand people in a crowded auditorium.
She then executed an incredible dancing routine for the following three hours.
The audience gave Sudha Chandran a standing ovation, and her mother sobbed with joy.
Afterward, her father compared her to the goddess Saraswathi and touched her feet when she returned home.
