As kids, we always had time for our hobby, drawing and coloring, or dance class after school. As we grew older, that aspect took a back seat, and life happened, and we became involved and serious about our career and neglected the ‘creative hobby’ in us.
In today’s fast-paced world, we are all so engrossed in our work, to earn money and be better, that we find no time to pursue any hobby. But what is a hobby? Painting, drawing, reading, and writing are all hobbies.
An action that is done regularly in your spare time for pure enjoyment is known as a hobby. Now that we have seen what a hobby is, I was hoping you could take a moment and think of all those activities you should do in your spare time that give you happiness and satisfaction.
Nah, can’t recall? It’s been so long since you have indulged in such an activity. We are so engrossed in our work and career that we don’t want to alter our routine and include a hobby.
When someone suggests that we immediately start to calculate the time pursuing a hobby would require to take up a new hobby.
But what if I tell you that a hobby will make you more competent at work and improve your productivity?
Now, you might consider picking a hobby. Work takes up most of our time, and gives us financial independence, then why we must do something else?
Let us look at why pursuing a hobby might be good for us.
1. Helps ease mental stress
Maintaining a work-life balance is challenging and gives us several reasons to take the stress. With so much going on in the world, Tension comes to us quickly, even by just sitting at home.
Stress is the origin of various health problems. While you are stressing out about work, your children or how that person is successful in life, unknowingly, you’re inviting multiple health issues.
You cannot stay without stress or worrying about things, which is human nature. But you can surely do something that will give you mental peace. And developing a hobby is one of them.
Imagine, after a tiring day at work, you come home and do something you love, like play the guitar or doodle, it will put you at ease, and it will calm your mind to have some time for yourself, to do things you love.
2. Improves productivity
Let me tell you how pursuing a hobby can help you be productive at work. When you are stuck with a problem, taking a break and pursuing your hobby enables you to relax your mind and think differently.
It increases your problem solving, strategising and collaboration techniques. You tend to become more creative at work and can deal with problems in a better way.
Perspective is everything, and you never know while you are at your hobby, an idea might strike, and you can put it to use at work and voila! Your boss is impressed.
3. Warms your brain’s creativity muscles
Creativity has always been associated with art. We tend to believe that if we cannot paint or draw well, then we are not creative. But creativity comes in different forms and can be developed with time.
Having a hobby stimulates the creative side in you and keeps you happy mentally and physically.
4. Increase in self-confidence and self-worth
When you decide to learn a new hobby, you challenge yourself. As you see yourself getting better at it, satisfaction creeps in, and you feel proud of yourself.
‘I can achieve all, I set my mind to’ this attitude will set in, and you will start to feel good about yourself. It will give you the confidence to excel professionally as well as personally.
Conclusion
All-in-all having a hobby and trying new ones is massively beneficial for all. You get to spend time with yourself, grow personally, learn how to manage your time, and gain mental peace.
There are multiple reasons why you should have hobbies and even explore new ones, and I have spoken about the most important ones here. But having a hobby also makes you an interesting person, and you will have multiple things to talk about it.
We aspire to update our resume with a lot of skills. We should do the same with our hobbies too, and we should keep doing creative things to keep ourselves busy and happy.
