Stephen Curry was already dubbed “the greatest shooter in NBA history” by his peers.
Now the numbers are on his side.
In the first quarter of Tuesday’s game against the New York Knicks, the Golden State Warriors guard nailed his 2,974th career three-pointer, passing Ray Allen for the most in league history. Curry came into the game three games behind Allen, who had to play 1,300 regular-season games to equal Curry’s 789.
Stephen Curry tied Allen’s record with his 2,973rd three-pointer, which came on his first shot of the game, with 10:50 gone in the first quarter. He missed out on breaking the record, but he came in second 2,974 minutes later, sending the Madison Square Garden crowd into a frenzy.
Curry let out a loud roar as his teammates clapped and applauded him. He hugged his father, Dell Curry, a former NBA player, and then his coach, Steve Kerr, who had grabbed the ball used in the record-setting shot.
He had the aim to break Allen’s record for years finally surpassed the record on Tuesday in his 789th career game; Allen had previously set it in 1,300 games.
Stephen has been closing up on the record for a week, thanks to his mastery of the three-point shot, which has helped popularise the shot in the NBA.
Curry joked that he hoped to knock all 16 threes in last Wednesday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers, breaking teammate Klay Thompson’s single-game three-point record in the process.

Stephen Curry will premier his ‘2974’ Collection NFT
The “2974 Collection,” Curry’s own NFT, which premiered on Monday at 2974SC.com, consists of a series of nonfungible tokens, each individually numbered out of a total of 2,974 — the amount of 3s needed to beat Ray Allen’s previous record of 2,973.
Curry plans to donate 100 per cent of his revenues to his “Eat. Learn. Play” foundation, which he and his wife, Ayesha Curry, founded in 2019.
The digital moment’s artwork was custom-created to depict each of Curry’s 2,974 3-pointers in the NBA, building up to the record-setting wing heave only five minutes into the Warriors’ showdown against the New York Knicks on Tuesday.
Andrea McDonald, a recent college graduate and artist, hand-drew the artwork, which was created by layering a repeat “2974” print throughout to recreate a memorable image from each made 3-pointer. Curry’s digital signature is included with each piece, as well as the game’s venue and date.
In September, Curry established a multi-year ownership arrangement with the FTX cryptocurrency exchange, which includes roles as both an ambassador and a stakeholder.
Users will be able to purchase NFTs from the 2974 Collection on FTX and then sell them later. Owners who engage in the programme may receive autographed memorabilia, game tickets, additional NFT drops, and early access to Curry Brand limited-edition things in the future.
As part of the launch, owners will receive a bonus NFT in addition to the entire series of NFTs. Curry commissioned an additional series of two storyboard animations from 86-year-old pioneering artist Floyd Norman, Disney’s first Black animator.
