RCB chased down 129 runs against KKR in the low-scoring encounter in IPL 2022. Dinesh Karthik finished the game with six and four when seven runs were needed in the last over.
KKR Batting
Openers fell for low scores:
Ajinkya Rahane and Venkatesh started the innings slowly. They scored 14 in the first 3 overs and the wicket fell on the first ball of the 4th over, with Akash Deep dismissing V Iyer for 10 off 14 balls.
RCB dismissed another opener with the short ball strategy, this time off Siraj’s bowling. Rahane fell into the trap and played the pull shot straight into the hands of a square-leg fielder.
Akash Deep Strikes Again:
David Willey took a great catch to get Nitish Rana out for 10 runs in 5 balls. Akash Deep took his second wicket with a short-pitched ball. KKR ended the powerplay with 44 runs, but they lost 3 key wickets. Aakash Deep was expensive in his first overs. He gave 23 runs and took two wickets.
Hasaranga Brilliant Spell:
Wanindu Hasaranga dismissed the KKR captain in his first over. It was a crucial wicket for them as Shreyas Iyer was out for 13 after attempting a big shot over long-on. Hasaranga dismissed Narine and Sheldon Jackson in successive balls in the 9th over. Narine scored 12 (10), and Jackson scored the Golden Duck.
Harshal Back-to-Back Wicket Maiden overs:
The previous season’s Purple Cap Holder continues his form this season as well. Harshal Patel bowled back-to-back wicket maiden overs. First, he dismissed Sam Billings with a short ball at 14. Billings miscued the pull, and Kohli took the dolly on long-on.
Andre Russell hit 3 sixes in the spin bowling, and Shahbaz hit 2 sixes in the over. Harshal got Russell for 25 (18). Russell slashed hard but got the outer edge, Karthik made the brilliant catch behind the stumps.
Umesh and Varun helped to reach 128:
Wanindu Hasaranga took 4 wickets for just 20 runs in his 4 over quota. Umesh Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy added 27 runs for the last wicket.
This is the highest partnership for any wicket in KKR innings. Aakash Deep ended KKR’s batting with Umesh Yadav’s wicket.
RCB Batting
KKR bowlers dominated the powerplay:
Faf du Plessis and Anuj Rawat opened the innings for RCB. Umesh Yadav, as usual, was excellent on the power play. He dismissed Anuj Rawat with excellent delivery.
The KKR bowlers were ruthless with the new ball. They dismissed Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli in successive balls.
Faf was out at 5 in Southee bowling as the ball swung late, took the outer edge, and went into Rahane’s hands at the backward point.
Umesh dismissed Virat Kohli as he poked the ball, and the wicket-keeper did the rest. RCB finished the power play with just 36 runs.
David Willey’s promotion in the batting order:
David Willey was promoted up the batting order. After losing wickets, David Willey and Sherfane Rutherford initially tried to build a partnership. Two batsmen played slowly due to early wickets and batted for almost 9 overs without losing a wicket.
Willey got out after adding a 45-run partnership. Narine dismissed Willey for 18 off 28 balls. KKR controlled the run rate and scored 45 runs, for a total of 53 runs in this partnership.
Shahbaz Ahmed’s Cameo innings:
Shahbaz Ahmed came to the crease ahead of Dinesh Karthik. Shahbaz added crucial runs in this innings. He hit 2 sixes in Russell’s over. As the previous ball went for six, Varun came back with the wicket.
The batsman danced down and tried to repeat the previous ball, but he didn’t expect that Varun could bowl googly, which would turn away from the batsman, and he was stumped.
28 runs are needed last 4 overs:
Dinesh Karthik came into the crease after Shahbaz’s dismissal. Sunil Narine conceded just 4 runs in the 17th over.
Narine gave only 12 runs in his 4 overs. This is an excellent spell in a low-scoring match. The batsmen played safely in this over and didn’t want to lose a wicket while attacking Narine.
Southee’s double-wicket over:
RCB needed 24 runs to win the last 3 overs (8 runs per over). Southee bowled brilliantly and came up with 7 runs and 2 wickets in his over. Rutherford went for the slog and got the inner edge and an excellent catch from behind the stumps.
Rutherford finished his struggling innings with 28 runs off 40 balls. Hasaranga scored 4 off his second ball and was dismissed for the next ball.
Dinesh Karthik Finished the innings:
Dinesh Karthik survived a runout; two batsmen came to the striker’s end, and Umesh Yadav’s wild throw helped him reach the other end. Harshal scored 10 runs with two boundaries in an over-bowled by Venkatesh Iyer.
Dinesh Karthik finished the match with six and four as he needed 7 runs in the last over. RCB won the low-scoring thriller match with 3 wickets in hand.
