Yes! The famous game Player Unknown Battlegrounds (PUBG) is getting a sequel. According to the latest leaks, Krafton, the South Korean company that released PUBG, is now working on a sequel.
WHAT DOES THE PUBG 2 LEAK SAY?
Leakster PlayerIGN, who made reliable leaks about PUBG games before, has released a couple of documents showing Krafton Amsterdam.
Currently hiring a technical art director, technical animator and producers to work on a novel unannounced project based on Epic Games ‘Unreal engine. The documents have references to PUBG, which could imply that the project is related to the game.
Earlier, a professional PUBG player named Drassel asked about PUBG 2 for PC and console in reply to PUBG data miner, and it was then that Player IGN leaked the PUBG 2 news.
Drassel asked, “wait, so the PUBG 2 that we’re waiting for on pc. This is it? Its going to be this PUBG: New State set in 2051? To which Player IGN replied, “New state is only for mobile, the pubg 2 things (pc/console) is something we’re still waiting for by 2022.
WHAT CHANGES CAN WE EXPECT IN THE SEQUEL?
In an internal meeting, the leaker claimed that Krafton had already discussed upgrading PUBG to Unreal Engine 5. His post also hints at a work-in-progress game called X1, which will include Nvidia’s latest graphics card.
Implementing Unreal Engine 5 in the game will allow the dev team to use next-gen features like the geometric system Nanite or Lumen and the new lighting system feature, making PUBG 2 visually awesome.
Player IGN’s tweet about the development has been deleted, but it is available on the Internet Archive, and you can still see the actual job listings on it.
Bloomberg has also reported that Krafton is working on a survival game called The Callisto Protocol, which will be set 300 years in the future of PUBG Universe.
There is no official word yet from Krafton, so we can only speculate on these developments. There is also no confirmation on whether it will be a sequel or just an engine update similar to Overwatch 2.
After the Indian government decided to ban Chinese products in the country, Krafton took over the game.
PUBG’s main competitor Fortnite 2, is also working on a plan to switch to Unreal Engine 5 for the next season, but there is no confirmation when these changes might happen.
