Pepperfry is an Indian online retail shop for furniture and home decor started by Ambareesh Murty and Ashish Shah in 2012. The company is a subsidiary of Trendsutra Platform Services Private Limited, its headquarters in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Its mission is to spark a feeling called home worldwide and make budget furniture available to all.

    Startup

Ambareesh Murty and Ashish Shah started Pepperfry in Mumbai in 2012, and it has come a long way. Growing up, Ambareesh Murty had to move a lot. He had developed a deep value for every place he stayed at and how he made them his own.

Ashish Shah, his eBay co-worker, had a similar idea, and they both gave birth to ‘pepperfry.’

They didn’t even think of a name for the company back then, but they couldn’t have chosen a better one.

    Funding

The company has raised a total of $245.3 million in over nine funding rounds.

In 2011 the company raised $5 million in its initial funding round and $8 million in a Series B funding round in 2013, both led by Norwest Venture Partners India (NVP).

In May 2015, the company secured $15 million in a Series C funding round led by Bertelsmann India Investments and NVP.

On July 2015, the company secured $100 million in a Series D funding round from early backers and Goldman Sachs and Zodius Technology Fund.

In 2016 the company raised $69 million in a Series E funding round from State Street Global Advisors and existing investors.

In 2021 their funding was raised from a Debt Financing round.

    Investors

8 investors fund Pepperfry. The most recent investors would be InnoVen Capital and Bertelsmann India Investment.

    Future

In 2020 Pepperfry partnered with Hettich, Bosch, Siemens, Kajaria, Gyproc, among others, venturing into home interiors and design.

    Looking forward to this one!

They opened their first offline store in Mumbai in 2014, and in the next five years, there were over 70 stores across 28 cities in India.
