The Pakistan vs West Indies series was disrupted by an additional five confirmed cases of COVID-19 at the Karachi meeting camp. A decision on the tour’s further commencement will be decided in a meeting between CWI and PCB representatives on Thursday.
Players Affected with COVID-19
Following PCR tests conducted on Wednesday in Pakistan, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has confirmed that five more members of the West Indies visiting delegation tested positive for COVID-19 and will now undergo a period of self-disengagement.
Three players, including wicketkeeper-hitter Shai Hope, left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein, all-rounder Justin Greaves, right-hand opener Roddy Estwick, and group doctor Dr. Akshai Mansingh, returned covid positive.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) conducted the recent round of testing just before the third and final T20I.
Board decision on players affected with COVID-19
“Each of the three players will thus miss the upcoming matches, and each of the five persons will remain segregated from the rest of the West Indies team and are now under the consideration and oversight offered by the clinical authorities,” Cricket West Indies (CWI) stated in a statement.
The three individuals will be suspended for ten (10) days or until their PCR test results are negative.
New COVID-19 cases found in the camp
A total of six players are currently managed out of the visit because of COVID-19 and Devon Thomas’ finger injury (supported in the first T20I).
CWI and PCB Officials will meet on Thursday morning; after all, individuals from the visiting party have been tried once more to decide if the visit can proceed,” CWI added.
On Sunday, left-arm bowler Sheldon Cottrell, all-rounders Roston Chase and Kyle Mayers, and a non-training member of the board tested positive in Karachi and were ruled out of the Pakistan series.
The third T20I between the West Indies and Pakistan is set to take place on Thursday. Pakistan has officially sealed the series after winning the first two T20Is. The various teams are also scheduled to play three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) beginning Saturday.
