Meru Cabs is a ridesharing company in India. It is the one of the most trusted, comfortable and safest cab service. Neeraj Gupta founded the company in Mumbai in the year 2006.

App-based transportation services are provided by Meru Cabs company. It provides a customizable and cost-effective travel system according to the needs and budgets of the customers. It includes city rides, city rentals, airport transfers, outstation travel, etc.

The cabs facility is not only for individuals but also for the corporate houses across India. It is the first company in India to provide electricity in its fleet.

    How did it Start?

In his earlier days, Neeraj Gupta started and founded a V- link group in the year 2000. He started the company as a staff transportation business. After a few years, V-Link Fleet Solutions expanded its business and provided services to clients in the BPO (Business process outsourcing)corporate sector.

When the company started to grow with 1300 taxi services, Maharashtra Government decided to invite the tenders to fleet 10,000 taxis to replace yellow cabs; V-Link collaborated with India Value Fund, a VC company, to form the Meru Cab organization.

Meru was launched in Mumbai, offering AC cabs to Indian people for the first time with investment and funding of around INR 500 million. It has a call booking system with electronic meters and GPS/GPRS system cabs.

In a short time, i.e. by 2010, Meru scaled up its company’s services to the top four cities of India – Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Kolkata, with a fleet of around 5000 cabs. Now the Meru Cabs Company was Acquired by Tech Mahindra Group.

    Business Models of Meru Cabs

It’s a known fact that Meru Cab owns around 12% of the market share compared to other cab service companies and organizations.

So let us understand the business model of Meru Cab.

Meru organization buys the car and gives it to the driver. The driver deposits Rs 10,000. Meru trains the driver on soft skills.. According to the policy of Meru Cabs, drivers should have at least three years of driving experience and have a basic knowledge of reading and communication skills of English.

The drivers must carry out the fuel cost of cabs. All the maintenance charge of the car is taken care of by Meru.

After that, the driver is assigned a ride from the call centre of Meru organization through the GPS navigation system so that to ignore calls from the call centre becomes negligible.

In return, the driver provides Rs. 1000-1200 per day to Meru.

    Pros and Cons

    Pros :

    1. Its presence is around many cities of India.

    2. Meru cabs are clean and tidy

    3. The fares of these cabs are tracked every time.

    4. It is available for 24×7 e-bill service

    5. The drivers of Meru Cabs are well trained about safety and security issues and their communication skills.

    Cons :

    1. It doesn’t provide non-ac cabs.

2 . The cabs are owned by the company; therefore, the company is responsible for the maintenance of the cars, which indirectly increases it’s expenses.

    3. If the server is broken, then it becomes difficult for the user to connect and book the cab

    Conclusion

All in all, Meru cabs provide cost-effective and cheap rides with clean cabs. It does not only help drivers through investing in technology but also helps Meru deliver consistent and reliable service to its customers.
