LSG comes from backward to clinch the match against SRH by 12 runs. This match was played at D.Y. Patil Stadium and was the 12th match of the Tata IPL 2022. LSG now would be booming with confidence as this match was by no means an easy win to clinch.
Mr. Goenka, the owner of LSG, has now won two out of three matches and is making a statement that they are not a finished product.
SRH, on the other hand, has lost 2 out of 2 as now Kane Williamson has to play a captain’s knock to take the team out of the muddle.
SRH choose to bowl first after winning the toss
They had rocked the batting lineup of SRH by picking up 3 wickets as they scored 32 runs in the power-play overs. It looked like LSG would end up with a score of 140 odd runs as Evin Lewis, the destructor, was out. KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda got their eyes on it and then went berserk.
Both the batters were just bashing the bowlers, as from 32-3, the score was 169-7. KL Rahul, the skipper, scored 68 runs in 50 balls, whereas Hooda played a knock of 51 runs in 33 balls.
The duo made sure that they were giving their bowlers a chance to defend the target. Washington Sundar, Romario Shepherd, and T Natarajan took 2 wickets each. The LSG batters set a target of 170, which was a reasonable one.
In response to the 170 run target, SRH lost their openers
Abhishek Sharma and Kane Williamson. Two wickets were lost in two power-play overs, resulting in a total score of 40. Rahul Tripathi looked ominous. He stitched a small partnership of 42 with Aiden Markram.
They needed 88 runs to win in the last 10 overs, and it looked like they could get over the finish line, but there was a major twist in the story.
Avesh Khan came from nowhere to dent the run chase as he got rid of the dangerous Nicholas Pooran in the 18th over, which changed the dynamics of the match.
He also got rid of the young batter, Abdul Samad. SRH required 26 runs to win from the last 12 legal deliveries. AJ Tye made sure that he gave more than 15 runs to defend against the lanky Jason Holder.
Holder made sure that the batters weren’t doing any damage as he successfully defended the target as LSG won the match by 12 runs. LSG would be over the moon as they wouldn’t be able to say that they won as chasing 88 in 10 overs is not a huge task.
What lies ahead for SRH?
SRH would be dejected as they had the game in their bag as the pressure got the better of the match. Next up for SRH is an afternoon game against CSK, which eliminates the possibility of dew.
CSK has lost 3 out of 3, and SRH has lost 2 out of 2 as the clash would at least make one team free from a string of losses. SRH needs Nicholas Pooran to finish the match as his inability is hurting SRH a lot.
The likes of Romario Shepherd need to cash in with a cameo of 20 odd runs as his knock can make SRH victorious. Overall, SRH hopes to win their first match, as it’s common for teams to take some time to get their bearings.
