The Government of India and other countries’ policies are promoting electric mobility solutions in a big way, and this segment will have unique growth opportunities in coming years.
Kerala’s startup VAAN has grabbed this golden opportunity and has decided to enter the segment. The startup launched globally, focusing on e-mobility solutions for land and water.
Union Minister of the State for Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar launched Van Electric Moto brand “VAAN” through a virtual event in Kochi, Kerala on 22nd January 2022.
About the company
VAAN is a premium lifestyle e-mobility startup that is basically into designing, assembling, and marketing high-tech e-bikes, e-scooter, e-mopeds, and many more.
The company claims that these vehicles offer a top speed of 25 km/h and a pedal-assisted range of about 50 km to 60 km depending upon the model.
The e-bike is available in two variants- Urbansport and Urbansport Pro. It has a power-assisted mode with five electric gears. The price of both these bikes is different- Urbansport e-bike is priced at ₹59,999, and Urbansport Pro is priced at ₹69,999.
VAAN is first of its kind lithium-based battery that can be easily removed. The battery weighs around 2.50 kg with a warranty of two years which can be fully charged in four hours. Only half a unit of electricity will be needed, which costs approximately ₹4-5.
About the founders
Jithu Sukumaran Nair, Anjitha Ushakumari, and Sukumaran Nair Vishnu are the directors of Van Electric Moto Private Limited “VAAN.”
Founder and CEO of VAA, Jithu Sukumaran Nair, seeded the startup from the idea of having a premium e-mobility brand that would also contribute to environment sustenance.
Jithu is a native of Kochi, Kerala. He had been working as a General Manager at Ultradeep Subsea of Singapore before the inception of VAAN.

Funding and Supporters
The Board of Directors of Asian Energy Services Limited has approved a strategic investment in the growing e-mobility sector like VAAN.
On 7th January 2022, VAAN has raised a total of ₹60 million in funding over 1 round from the company, which was a Corporate Round.
World-known organizations support VAAN like BENELLI ITALY for engineering and supply chain, KISKA AUSTRIA for branding and design, and Bennett, Coleman Group for branding and advertising.
It has tied with an Italian brand ‘Benelli Biciclette‘ to deploy engineering and supply chain. Both the companies will work closely for the development of Urbansport Duo.
VAAN Future Plans
VAAN imparts the future generation with the power to define their destiny and make a small difference in India and globally with e-mobility solutions.
The startup targeted the young cycling enthusiasts, but now they will be diversifying their audience and looking at even mature generation of age 40-55 years.
At the next level, when e-mopeds are launched, an additional facility will be available for swapping the drained batteries with new ones at the stations
