In IPL 2022, some international players were unavailable for the first few matches due to international duties. So some of the young Indian players were given a chance, and they took advantage of the opportunity and performed well.
Some senior players have made a comeback with their performances in this IPL season. They were either dropped from the XI in the last season or benched without being given enough chances.
Umesh Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, and Deepak Hooda performed well in this IPL season.
Umesh Yadav
Umesh Yadav has taken just 8 wickets in the last three IPL seasons. He took 8 wickets in 11 matches in 2019, took zero wickets in 2 matches in 2020, and did not get a chance to play in 2021.
His economy was strong, so he didn’t get more chances.
Comeback
Umesh made his comeback with this IPL. He took 9 wickets in 4 matches with just a 5.25 economy. He took at least one wicket in every match.
Umesh Yadav is a natural wicket-taker in the power play.
He has taken 50 wickets in the powerplay in IPL history, and only Zaheer Khan, Sandeep Sharma, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have more wickets than him in the powerplay.
How he is beneficial to his team
Wickets in the powerplay are always good for the bowling team. In this year’s IPL too, Umesh was the best in the powerplay. He took 6 wickets in the powerplay with a 4.64 economy.
Kuldeep Yadav
Kuldeep Yadav has taken only 5 wickets in the last 3 IPL seasons. The 5 wickets came at an average of 75.6 in 13 innings, with an economy of 8.4.
He was dropped from the team for conceding 59 runs in a match against RCB in 2019 and didn’t get a chance for the rest of the season.
In 2020, he was dropped after playing the first 3 matches and bowled well after conceding 39 runs in the first match. He played only one match for the rest of the tournament.
He didn’t play a single match in IPL2021. Kuldeep’s career didn’t go well after the destruction of Moeen Ali by his bowling in the 2019 IPL.
Comeback
The Delhi Capitals bought Kuldeep Yadav as their main spinner in the IPL 2022 auction. DC wanted to give him confidence, and KKR management did not handle him properly.
In IPL2022, in his comeback match against the Mumbai Indians, Kuldeep took 3 wickets for 18 runs in his 4 overs spell. He has taken 6 wickets in three matches, with an average of 13.5 and a 6.9 economy.
How he is beneficial to his team
Kuldeep Yadav’s role is crucial for the Delhi Capitals in the middle overs (7-15). They have another spinner, Axar Patel, who can bowl economy spells and can bowl in the powerplay. If Kuldeep Yadav takes wickets in the middle overs, it will help the fast bowlers who bowl in the last overs.
Deepak Hooda
Deepak Hooda was not a regular member of the IPL team in the past. He scored 151 runs with 158 SR for Rajasthan Royals at an average of 16 in his first IPL season. He was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2016 season.
He didn’t do well for SRH, averaging 13.8 in 36 innings, scoring 373 runs with 117 SR, and posting a high score of just 34. Deepak has played for the Punjab Kings for the last two IPL seasons. He scored 261 runs in 16 innings, averaging 23.7 and 134.5 SR.
Comeback
Deepak Hooda made his debut for India before the IPL auction. He came up for auction as a capped player, who was bought by the Lucknow Supergiants for Rs 5.75 crore in the IPL2022 auction.
Deepak Hooda was in the form of his life and he didn’t disappoint his team. He is their 3rd leading scorer, after Quinton Decock and KL Rahul. He scored 130 runs at an average of 32.5, 136.8 SR, and 2 fifties. Those 2 fifties came in the winning cause.
How he is beneficial to his team
The Lucknow SuperGiants have less experienced middle-order batsmen, but they have more all-rounders. Manish Pandey didn’t score much and was dismissed after three matches.
He was replaced by an all-rounder. This puts more pressure on middle-order batsmen. Deepak Hooda scored 106 off 68 balls with SR 155.9 (7-15) in the middle overs. Unbeaten in the middle overs. The strike rate is very high. It would be nice if he did the same for the rest of the season.
