IPL 2021 SWOT Analysis: Will KL Rahul lead revamp Punjab side to their first IPL title?
The Punjab Kings (Formerly known as Kings XI Punjab) had a terrible season last year. They won just 2 games first 7 matches but made an incredible comeback and won 5 games in a row. Unfortunately, they won’t make the playoffs and are eventually lost to CSK in a must-win encounter.
Mohali-based franchise completely revamps their side this season – change their team name, change their jersey, and also add some new faces in their lineup. Once Again KL Rahul will lead the side that had a great season last year scored the most runs in the tournament.
Will change their fortune in this season’s IPL.
SWOT Analysis of Punjab Kings Team –
- Strengths – Punjab Side has blistering top-order batsmen including Chris Gayle, KL Rahul, Mayank Agrawal, Nicholas Pooran in their ranks will possess major threats to the opposition. The team also strengthen with the inclusion of Moises Henriques, Dawid Malan,& young explosive batsman Shahrukh Khan. The addition of Aussie-speedsters like Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith will bolster their pace attack.
- Weaknesses – Lack of experience in the bowling attack is a major weakness for the Punjab Kings. Apart from Mohammad Shami & Chris Jordan, the team had an inexperienced bowling unit. However, the spinning duo of Murugan Ashwin & Ravi Bishnoi impressive last season but have to learn a lot to bowl in a crunch situation. The Aussie pair of Richardson & Meredith also playing their first season and having no prior experience of playing in IPL.
- Opportunities – The young pacers like Arshdeep Singh & Ishan Porel having a great opportunity to give a supportive role to M. Shami in the inexperienced pace department. The youngsters like Deepak Hooda, Shahrukh Khan, Mandeep Singh will be looking to grab the opportunity to perform well this season & make an impact in the weak middle order for the Punjab Side.
- Threats – Punjab has a very solid top-order but inexperienced middle-order which is a major area of concern for the team. They also have to address the problem of injury concerns for key players like M. Shami, Chris Gayle, Moises Henriques. These players will an important role in the team’s success. They also continuously change their playing XI last season that impacts their performance last season. They have to choose an ideal lineup that gives them a chance to qualify for the playoffs this season.
Punjab Kings has several match-winners in their team with some exciting young Indian players. With its new identity, the Punjab franchise is looking to change its fortunes.
