Human Augmentation Explain in a Simple Way

In simple words, Human Augmentation is the replication of human ability but to an extended level. Like contact lenses, which we wear inside the eyes, it enhances our visual.

    What is Human Augmentation?

Human Augmentation is a field of research that aims to enhance human capabilities through medicine or technology.

It has historically been achieved by ingesting chemical substances that improve a selected capacity or installing implants requiring a medical operation.

Both of these methods of growth can be invasive.

Enhanced capabilities have also been achieved with external equipment, such as glasses, binoculars, microscopes, or susceptible microphones.

Augmented reality and multimodal interaction technologies have recently enabled non-invasive ways to enhance humans.

    Understanding Replication Human Ability

Wearable technologies can act as mediators for human augmentation, in much the same way that glasses once revolutionized human vision.

The non-invasive and easy-to-use wearable extensions will prolong active lives for ageing citizens or support specially-abled people in society.

Therefore, we conclude by discussing ethical and social issues: privacy, social manipulation, autonomy, side effects, access, security and balance, and the unpredictable future.

Human Augmentation can distribute in 3 stages like

    • Primary Level: Recapitulation of human potential:- The primary level of human augmentation copying or say human replication abilities that they may already have. Like if you have fingers, you don’t need artificial fingers; if your visual sight is clear, you don’t need artificial gadgets to make it normal. So the products made at the primary level focus on those who lack that usual ability and are not for general use.
    • Second Level: Complementary Human Potential:- The second level of human augmentation enhances human abilities. Like jump higher, think faster, etc.
    • Ultimate Level: Exceeding human capacity:- The ultimate level of human augmentation will be when a human can fly or have the power to be invisible.

Example of Recapitulation of human potential

    • Artificial body parts: These are not regular wooden or rubber parts as we have seen before. These devices are made based contains ICs inside it. These devices are primarily used for those who lost their body parts like fingers.
    • Eye Glasses: again, these are the special glasses that can enhance not only your common sight but can make it better than normal eyes. You can see the clear vision in any light condition or take pictures to keep in device memory.
    • MotionSavvy: MotionSavvy is the company’s name developing a technology to help deaf and hard of hearing people. A device that can understand sign language and convert it into plain English in real-time, so the people who cannot understand sign language can communicate with people who cannot talk and hear.
    • Hearing implant solution: develop devices that restore hearing without wearing an external hearing aid.
    • Bio Printing: Creating biological tissues like organs, bones, skin, etc., using 3D printers.

    Example of Complementary Human Potential

    • Exoskeleton: Wearable, mechanical devices which can be worn outside the body. They usually provide artificial strength and endurance to the wearer.
    • BCI: Another project by Elon Musk with the ultimate goal of creating a brain-computer interface (BCI). If successful, the Project would allow individuals to interact with computers at a neural level, and the Project is still in its infancy.
    • Real-time translator devices: A set of earbuds that can translate conversations in real-time, completely bypassing the need to learn foreign languages.
    • HoloLens 2: A mixed reality headset from Microsoft that allows people to visualize and manipulate objects in holographic form. The device has many commercial and industrial uses, such as 3D computer-aided design and design collaboration, employee training and virtual instruction, and gaming.

    Examples of exceeding human capacity

    • Flyboard: The driver stands on top of it like a skateboard or surfboard and can fly.
    • Invisibility Gadgets: The idea of being invisible. The technology is not ready yet, but we are close to making it possible.
    • Nanobot: These bots can be deployed in the human body to perform specific functions that the human immune system does on its own, such as targeting and attacking certain diseases and conflicting with the human immune system.
    • Synthetic memory chip: The Project for designing a Memory chip can be installed in the human brain. Still conceptual, the Project could allow people to have “perfect” memories that never lose the information.

These few examples show some gadgets and technologies available for human augmentation, and even we are at an early level to fully develop this technology. The sound achievement will be the impact our lives in a better way.
