I call it “the monster light.” Yes, it is invisible yet more dangerous than a monster.
It’s the blue light that’s coming out of every display you’re using. I have some tricks for you to save yourself.
Better use technology for information and work. Never get addicted.
Before jumping into the topic, let’s see how the display works with core principles and techniques.
We will have 3 layers in any Display – a backlit display, and a polarizer.
*Display can be backlit by tube lights at the back i.e., LCD.
*Display in which each pixel is individually backlit by LED light.
*Plasma also existed but is no longer sold new on the market.
*To form colors on any display, it’s done by a mix of three colors – RED-GREEN-BLUE (RGB).
*Last but not least, blue is the color that affects and strains the eyes because it has a shorter wavelength, which causes strain and pressure on the eyes.
Try to stop using CRT tubes as it is old technology. Instead, go for LEDs and OLED displays, which are way better than CRT displays.
Here are the few tips and tricks to keep your eyes cool and protect them.
1. Try to opt for technology like LED and OLED displays.
2. LCDs and ARTs are dangerous for the eyes because they put more strain on the eyes. The more it is displayed at a distance, the better.
3. These days, smartphones and other display devices are coming up with a strain and blue light protection feature that has an inbuilt filter or screen and special coatings that remove all the blue light coming out of the displays.
If you opt for them for better results, get yourself one and stick it to the display.
4. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water to keep your eyes cool and lubricated. To achieve the best results, drink water every hour.
5. Never use any display on full brightness and keep it as low as possible for the best results.
6. If possible, opt for larger displays instead of smaller ones for better outcomes because they can be watched from a distance.
7. Take a break every 30 minutes for at least 2 minutes, which is a must-do thing…
8. Try to use the 20-20-20 rule, to prevent eye strain: Set a timer to remind you to look away every 20 minutes at an object that is about 20 feet away for a full 20 seconds.
9. We have plenty of blue light filter glasses on the market to filter the unwanted rays, and we should always use these glasses to keep our eyes cool.
10. Smartphones and laptops are coming up with software features like grayscale, night mode, etc. These add great benefits to eye strain reduction.
11. Reduce the screen on time as much as possible, unless it’s necessary to do so.
12. Get proper vitamins and minerals, among which vitamin A is very important.
13. While using a smartphone, keep it far away from your face.
14. Never use a smartphone in a dark room.
15. Technology has become an addiction other than a requirement, which needs to be stopped.
16. Stop playing games on smartphones with smaller screens, which is very dangerous.
