    Who doesn’t want to stay fit and healthy today? Everyone around the globe wishes to lead a healthy lifestyle. People do many things to stay fit. They exercise, jog, do yoga, meditate and plan a proper diet. 

    The meal we eat in a day play a vital role in keeping us healthy and happy. We tend to gain weight or get diagnosed with severe health issues. 

    Due to our everyday problems, stress, and workload, we look for comfort, and at times, we find that in our food. We end up having so much comfort food that, at times, we ignore the problems that we might face later on.

    One of the ways to lose weight is by having a low-carb diet.

    What is a low-carb diet?

    A low-carb diet emphasizes food rich in protein and fiber and restricts food containing carbohydrates, starch, or sugar.

    One can eat meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, fruit, nuts, seeds, high-fat dairy, fats, healthy oils, and maybe some tubers and non-gluten grains during a low-carb diet. 

    At the same time, one should avoid Sugar, HFCS, wheat, seed oils, trans fats, “diet” low-fat products, and highly processed foods. 

    Benefits of a low-carb diet

    Low carb diet is known and used for weight loss, but along with that, it helps in resolving many health issues. A low-carb diet reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome by improving insulin function in the body. 

    It also temporarily improves blood sugar and cholesterol level. Studies have proven that it also results in better sleep quality and high energy levels. 

    Above all, a low-carb diet, eating healthy, and following a proper diet plan according to your body’s needs keep the essential parts of the body like heart, liver, and kidney very healthy, assuring a good life span. 

    Common sources of naturally occurring carbohydrates include Grains, Fruits, Vegetables, Milk, Nuts, Seeds, Legumes (beans, lentils, peas). 

    The insulin release in the body helps the glucose to enter the body’s cells. This is stored in various body parts and in the form of fats as well. A low-carb diet burns the fat stored and produces energy. It results in weight loss. 

    Many people think that cutting down on calories can help lose weight, but this isn’t true. According to studies, the helpful factor here is the proteins. 

    Consumption of proteins keeps one full for a long period. It reduces one’s appetite, resulting in eating less and losing weight later. 

    Disadvantages of low carb diets

    Everything has its advantages and disadvantages. Excessive of anything is harmful. Similarly, Low carb diet also has some side effects.

    Eating a large number of fats and proteins, especially from animal sources, can lead to heart diseases and can be a reason for cancer. 

    Cutting down on carbs suddenly and drastically can lead to temporary health problems like dizziness, headache, weakness, fatigue, constipation. 

    There can be other harmful effects on the body like kidney stones, Osteoporosis, and poor exercise capacity.
