As an engineering student, I am trying to solve any problem that we see. The best way is to give variables, form a hypothesis, and solve the problem using them.
Anyone who has studied maths in school knows that one of the most important ingredients is the assumption, and one of the biggest problems for which finding a solution is often seen as destiny is life itself.
The engineering student in me decided to solve it too, but before that, I decided to find out the common assumptions that are made when it comes to the grandest problem of all.
1. Life will always give you what you deserve
It is the most confusing assumption that even though it forms an important aspect of everyone’s life, it is not always true. Remember the times when you have given your heart and soul to something, and yet the result is nothing but a failure?
It is a simple contradiction to the assumption itself, yet it is the same assumption that pushes one to their goal ultimately.
As Ruskin Bond once said, “don’t blame the situations where you failed, even after the hard work; think about the times when you got things without much work; life is not fair.”
Maybe this assumption is not completely accurate, but it is one of the best assumptions that can help a person move forward and give it his or her all.
2. Life is full of rainbows
At first glance, this is an assumption that everyone hopes for and something I believe is partially true and focuses more on reality than fiction.
I believe that there is a rainbow around every corner in life, but the flip side is that rain or even a storm is required for a rainbow to form.
And life, as such, is the same one has to go through various storms to see the rainbow in life, and hence we can safely say that this one is accurate even though people tend to consider only one part.
3. The more people you know, the more optimistic it is
Another assumption made by the people who start to solve this equation is that the network has a net worth. But, this assumption is not entirely correct in a world where the network is net worth.
Having a good network is indeed essential, but the truth is that the network should be with the people who genuinely have your back, and most of the time, it’s few enough to count with fingers.
Hence, this assumption could be from a place of insecurity that gives a sense of belonging and relevance.
4. You are one big break away from a happy life
I think the reason for this assumption is mainly movies. All the movies we watch show the struggle of every hero to reach his goal and finally have it all and then finally live life.
But almost no film shows how many more mountains there are after that, and how much harder they are after the first victory.
And since everyone has an affinity for deriving motivation from films, it is common to make this assumption. But like some great guy once said, it is more important to win the second time as more people are ready to tell you it was luck the first time.
5. Life always has a happy ending
It is not expected in this list, and almost everyone makes this assumption, but the truth is that this assumption motivates all of us to strive and achieve our goals.
But the truth is that this is an incorrect assumption, and the truth is that life is what you make it, but there is no guarantee that it will end happily.
Maybe life is worth living, and this is why so many people succeed.
So these are common assumptions, and the truth is that they will help in far more ways than one can imagine, even if it is not entirely correct.
