Greta Thunberg’s (environmental activist) story is a breathing example, which justifies the famous saying of Joan Collins, “Age is just a number”.
Contribution
Greta is a Swedish environmental activist, born in 2003, a girl who is inspiring the upcoming generations to create a world of dreams by saving the present world from destruction. 2018, she took her first big step to alarm the government about the disrupting climate which the world is facing by holding a signboard outside the Swedish parliament, which read, “School Strike for Climate”.
Gradually, this one voice converted into 11 million voices and demanded the famous leaders to start acting towards reducing carbon emissions and reaching the targets.
Greta Thunberg was showered with love and support when she was nominated for Nobel Peace Prize in 2019. In the same year, Thunberg decided to attend the UN Climate Conference in New York, so she sailed across the Atlantic in a yacht and was completely planned according to carbon neutrality.
There she created a remarkable impact on the attendees, notifying them that we are at the beginning of mass extinction and stating few disturbing figures which would destroy the environment if not taken care of.
Greta’s statements like “You’re not trying hard enough” and “How dare you?” have left the people in power pondering over the untaken steps to save the planet. 2020 due to the pandemic conditions Greta’s strike continued online.
It targeted New Zealand’s Labour Government for setting a goal to reduce less than one per cent of New Zealand’s carbon emission by 2025. Also, the fashion industry got criticism for contributing a lot to the climate and ecological emergency.
The Beginning
Greta Thunberg started her journey by holding one signboard to make sure that she was doing enough to help reduce the carbon footprints from the earth and was able to look herself in the eye in times of crisis. She stopped flying, she bought only, what was necessary, and she even turned vegan.
Greta got a hundred per cent support from her family and friends; she did not expect such loud support from the others, but to her surprise, the world joined hands with her in this movement.
Conclusion
Her voice is raw and speaks the truth about the destruction. She is fearless when she blames the leaders and politicians responsible for putting the coming generations’ future at risk, for gaining a massive amount of money and an unbreakable empire for themselves. Her speeches come from within, and this is one of the reasons that influenced millions.
Her ability to turn her disability (Asperger syndrome) into her strength and “out of the box” thinking still creates a difference in this world.
Her responses to leaders have changed the heart of many regarding the urgency to save our planet from burning down due to global warming.
Her powerful and undying energy to put efforts into reducing carbon footprints has emerged as a ray of hope for future living beings to breathe in a world with a clear sky.
