You can use this feature only if your meetings are organized by Google Workspace Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, and Teaching and Learning Upgrade users.
HOW WILL THE NEW FEATURE BENEFIT BUSINESSES AND EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS?
Speaking about this beta feature, Google said that translated captions would help businesses make video calls more global, inclusive, and effective by removing the language ability, hindering collaboration.
Google further added that one more benefit for businesses is that it can also be helpful for meetings and training programs with globally inclusive teams. This feature will ensure that every person understands clear what message is being passed through.
By helping users consume the contents in a language of their choice, you can optimize information sharing, learning, and collaboration, which will make your meeting more effective.”
The tech giant also commented about the impact of this new feature on education.
Teachers can use the translated captions to speak with children who speak different languages, and students too will connect with peers who speak other languages.
HOW TO ENABLE THIS FEATURE?
If you as a user want to use this technology, then you have to follow the below steps:
- Switch on captions and select English
- You will then see an option below for translated captions.
- Switch it on and then choose your preferred language you would like the audio to be translated in.
Google is yet to comment on whether it will provide translations for meeting in Spanish, French, Portuguese, or German.
There is also no official word on when this feature will become available for all.
CONCLUSION
This new feature is the latest in many updates that Google has provided for its video-calling platform. Last week the camera on Meet was optimized to automatically detect when a user is underexposed and enhances the brightness to improve their visibility. Further changes were also made to the Hand Raise feature, which is now more visible.
