Sourav Ganguly, president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), avoided questions about Virat Kohli on Thursday after the former ODI captain made some troubling revelations in the media on a regular basis.
Ganguly stated that he approached Kohli when he decided to step down as T20I captain and pushed him to continue with the job, but the star batsman refused.
Kohli’s reaction to being relieved of the ODI captaincy
“Whatever was mentioned regarding the correspondence that transpired during the decision-making process was incorrect. I was contacted one and a half hours before the Test series decision meeting on the eighth.
Furthermore, there has been no previous communication with me since I announced my T20 leadership option on the seventh. The central selector went through the Test group with me, and we both agreed on it.
Before the conversation ended, I was informed that the five selectors had decided that I would not be the ODI commander. To which I said, ‘alright good.’
Later in the determination call, we briefly discussed it, and that is what happened. By any means, there had been no correspondence prior to it.”
Sourav Ganguly’s reaction after Virat’s statement
Regardless, Kohli stated on Wednesday that no such talk had taken place between him and any board official, which has now caused a furor and chaos in the Indian Cricketing Organisation.
After learning about Kohli’s statements, Ganguly refused to participate in the debate despite being nagged by journalists.
“I’m at a loss for words. We will handle it and forward it to the BCCI “The former commander of India stated.
The BCCI President disagrees with Kohli’s claims and is working on a response system, India Today has learned.
Virat Kohli’s controversial statement
ACCORDING TO INSIDERS, the BCCI is clearly distressed, but the board is in a perilous situation.
On the one hand, if they come out and declare that Kohli’s claims are incorrect, it portrays a negative picture of the captain in the eyes of fans and other game partners. However, presuming they remain silent, the board appears to have mistreated the skipper.
While the debate rages on, Virat Kohli and his Test team boarded a chartered flight from Mumbai to South Africa on Thursday morning.
India’s Schedule Against South Africa
Kohli will lead the Test squad in a three-match series beginning December 26, while Rohit, who has been ruled out of the red-ball games owing to a hamstring injury, will lead the ODI team if he recovers by January 19.
