Over the past decade, we have seen the emergence of a different kind of fashion.
There’s street style, and then there’s this a whole athleisure attire with its staple garments being shorts, leggings or track pants, tank tops or sports bras under hoodies and jackets and, of course, our beloved sneakers.
Indeed, this is athleisure wear, and it’s not limited to sportspeople alone.
Significance – Athleisure Wear
As it is known, typically, athleisure wear is seen on athletes, gym-goers, yoga fanatics and people engaged in any other form of physical activity. The main reason such clothes are chosen is because of their practicality.
We need complete liberty when we’re moving around, and nothing should restrict us. Thus, these clothes are usually form-fitting and not at all flowy.
Fabric is essential too. When we exert a kind of intensive physical pressure, we sweat, and it’s natural, and our body temperature rises, and we feel hot. The wrong materials can lead to excessive friction and chaffing, resulting in uncomfortable rashes and sometimes worse.
All athleisure garments are durable, absorbent, wrinkle-free and some even waterproof. This keeps the body dry and cool, and for colder weather, some jackets and tights have thermal insulation.
Sneakers are the most practical and convenient when it comes to running around. With the endless variety and features suited to your preference and requirements, whether you’re running errands around town, going for a walk in the park with friends or grabbing a cup of coffee, you can’t beat the comfort.
In Pop Culture
As always, celebrities and models have had a huge influence on this style of attire. From famous sportspeople such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Vanessa Wiliams, David Beckham, Michael Jordan, Usain Bolt and the like, to Bollywood actors and actresses and high fashion models and influencers.
Be it on the way to a photoshoot, going to the mall, the famous ‘airport looks’ or genuinely going to the gym or a yoga/pilates class. Snaps are taken of each and every one of them in the latest sports gear, giving the impression that whether they work out or not, they care about their fitness stylishly.
Models are known to be extremely fit, so seeing them in such attire is no surprise. The same case is with other such celebrities. Looking good all the time is no easy task, and it’s obvious that they all work very hard to look the way they do, which they want to show in the way they dress as well. It makes them look good, thus inspiring us to look good too.
The ‘Vogue” Side of it
Athleisure wear has branched out massively. Major luxury and designer fashion brands have paid attention to the public trends and are making their own athleisure wear collections.
Whether you genuinely want to wear these to the gym is up to you, but for a lot of A-list celebrities, it’s a fashion statement.
Celebrities have collaborated with many sports brands such as Adidas and Nike. These include Stella Mccartney x Adidas, Fenty x Puma by Rihanna, Dwayne Johnson x Under Armour, Gucci x North Face, Fendi x Fila, Louis Vuitton x NBA, Ranveer Singh x Adidas to name a few.
Other luxury athleisure brands include Victoria Secret’s PINK, Fred Perry, Under Armour, Champion, Yeezy and more.
So, at the end of the day, whether or not you wish to work out is irrelevant because you cannot deny the level of comfort and chicness athleisure wear brings.
