We are aware of the news making the rounds regarding the ‘Coal Crisis’ that has hit India. The country is on the verge of a major power crisis due to a coal shortage for power plants.
Is it the shortage we need to be worried about or the ever-growing population on Earth?
The current population of India is nearly 1.3 billion, and our country stands next to China in terms of population.
“Population and availability of resources are interrelated as the decline of one affects the other and vice-versa.”
We humans have been extremely successful in developing various technologies, which make our work easier. And on the other hand, the increase in the size of the human race is becoming a threat to the available resources on the earth.
While the government is doing its best to make people aware of the increase in population and decrease in available resources, it is our responsibility to contribute to this upcoming crisis.
Preserving our natural resources and fighting climate change to save the world and environment for future generations should be our priority.
To make resources available for our ever-growing population, we must start using the available resources cautiously. Excessive usage of non-renewable resources like fossil fuels results in a spike in climate change.
By conserving our natural resources, we can reduce the emission of greenhouse gas and save humankind and our environment.

Growing population is not in our control, but here are a few ways through which we can contribute to making the Earth livable:
1. Reduce water usage:
Using water sparingly is one of the easiest things. Take shorter showers. Close the tap while brushing your teeth. (Rather close all taps when not in use.)
Use the washing machine and dishwasher in energy-saving mode and whenever necessary.
2. Turn of lights:
A room full of bright lights is always great to see, but only when you’re in the room to enjoy it. So make sure to switch off the lights when not in use. Be it your own house, school, workplace or any public place where you see the lights or fans turned on with no one to use it, switch it off and save energy.
3. Reuse and Recycle:
Use products that can be reused switch to cloth bags for shopping; say no to plastic. When we use products that cannot be used more than once, we aid the production of these, leading to more industry waste; hence, shifting to reusable products helps in a lesser production.
4. Plant more Trees for Saving Earth:
I cannot stress enough how important this is and how it will help us in the long run. Whenever, wherever possible, plant trees. This is a slow process but a beneficial one. The future generation will thank you for taking this step and contributing to society.
Conclusion:
As humans, we are the luckiest creatures on Earth as we are blessed with the ability to think. Using this ability, we have been successful in every field and progressed in discovering great technologies.
While on the path of discovering incredible technologies, our duty towards the environment is taking a back seat.
We are responsible for the environmental changes around us, and we ought to contribute to making this a better place to live.
There are many ways in which we can help to save resources, and the above are easy and doable ones. Little by little, every step we take towards this counts and is a necessity.
