Deepinder Goyal, the founder of the world’s largest restaurant aggregator and food delivery service Zomato, has joined the Urban company, formerly known as the Urban Clap, along with three other industry figures.
Who is Deepinder Goyal
IIT Delhi graduate 2005 in computing and mathematics started his journey with Bains and Company in New Delhi, while working he discovered the idea of Zomato and started his entrepreneurial journey in 2010. Today, Zomato stands with an approx $14 billion market cap.
Listing down the other three are Ashish Gupta, co-founder of Helion Ventures, Ireen Vittal, former partner of Mckinsey & Co, and Shyamlal Mukherjee, former chairman and senior partner of PwC India.

Ashish was an early investor in startups like Flipkart and MuSigma, both of which were acquired for large sums of money by larger corporations.
His company, Helion Venture Partners, was co-founded by him, and he serves on the boards of several companies, including PubMatic, Simplilearn, and Naukri.
Some of his previous investments include Upwork.com, Perfios, and redBus. Pine Labs acquired QwikCilver Solutions and Daksh (acquired by IBM).
● Shyamlal Mukherjee: Mukherjee has been appointed as a non-executive independent director on the board of ITC 2021. He was the former chairman and senior partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in India.
Urban Company is a Gurgaon-based home services firm established in 2014. Abhiraj Singh Bhal, co-founder and chief officer of Urban Clap company quoted,

Additionally, In the year 2021, Zomato’s chief executive, Goyal, set up a board of directors for Magicpin and Unacademy. Vittal is also on the independent board with Diageo plc, HDFC Limited, Wipro, and Compass plc.
Co-founder of Helion Venture Ashish is an independent board member of Info Edge and HUL.
Former chairman and senior partner of PwC, Shyamlal Mukherjee, has also been a non-executive independent board member of ITC since 2021.
As per reports, the urban company is looking to have a board with at least 50% independent directors, compromising of three executive directors and three non-executives, with four independent directors at the head.
