Former Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal made the announcement live on Dutch television.
In Louis Van Gaal’s tenure as Manchester United’s manager from 2014 to 2016, the club won the FA Cup in his penultimate managerial stint. He revealed to Dutch television that he had prostate cancer.
The 70-year-old, who is presently on his third stint as Holland manager, spoke about his health on the show Humberto on Sunday evening as he addressed his upcoming documentary “Louis,” according to RTL.
Van Gaal stated that he has been undergoing treatment while continuing to manage the Dutch squad, but that he has not informed his players of his illness until now, even though he has been attending the hospital every night without their knowledge.
He stated that he did not want to disclose himself since it would influence their decisions. He intends to continue as the manager of the Dutch squad at this year’s World Cup in Qatar.
“Look, prostate cancer doesn’t kill you, at least not in 90% of the cases. It is usually the underlying disease that you die from. But it is an aggressive form. I’ve been irradiated 25 times. Then you need a lot of management to get through life. But I have an incredible amount of willpower to keep going. This group of players is a gift at a later age.”
He went on to say that he had battled this illness for the last part of his life, including his wife’s. It’s a part of the system since all of those experiences will help you grow as a person.
Louis Van Gaal had a successful record as a manager, having led Ajax, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and AZ Alkmaar. With Ajax, he had previously won league trophies and led them to a Champions League triumph in the year 1995.
He is on his third stint as the coach of the Netherlands national team and chose not to tell the team about the news until today.
In August of last year, he took over as head coach of the Netherlands from Frank de Boer and successfully completed their qualification campaign for Qatar, helping to bring their country to the World Cup for the second time after guiding them to third place in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Some tweets were trending on Twitter as the news became viral. Here are some of his past employers on Twitter, as they showed their love, support, and admiration for the Dutch strategist and former manager.
