In the rematch last night, Jake Paul kept his promises when he faced UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. Paul shocked many when he brutally knocked out the former UFC welterweight champion in the sixth round for the biggest win of his career in Hollywood.
In Saturday’s Night rematch with Tyron Woodley, Jake Paul’s fifth journey into professional boxing drew clinches and boos from the audience. Then came the big punch from the YouTube sensation.
Paul (5-0, 4 KOs) feinted with a body jab before landing a flush right hand over the top to knock Woodley out cold and ignite a frenzied celebration inside Amalie Arena in Tampa Florida.
In the Showtime pay-per-view bout, the 24-year-old Paul left no question in ways he didn’t in August when he hung on for a split decision over Woodley in their first encounter.
The cruiserweight match was fought at a catchweight of 192 pounds and survived a last-minute opponent switch when Woodley, 39, stepped in for Tommy Fury, the half-brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, who was injured.
Good for Jake Paul
The finish couldn’t have come at a better time for Jake Paul since the rematch had degraded solely into a holding contest with poor production, much like their previous meeting’s worst moments.
However, as soon as Paul landed the knockout punch, he reverted to his arrogant ways by leaping to the corner turnbuckle and excitedly rejoicing with his older brother, Logan Paul, a fellow influencer turned boxer.
Paul was the busier boxer throughout, leading on all three scorecards at the time of the stoppage (49-46, 48-46, 49-46). According to CompuBox, Paul and Woodley landed the same number of total punches (43). However, Paul was able to hit 41% of his power punches.
Like Woodley, despite Paul’s output, he was far too inclined to rely on the clinch, which delayed the action and drew a steady stream of boos from the audience.
Paul overcame that, as well as a cut on his forehead caused by Woodley’s wayward elbow in Round 4, to earn an overwhelming victory.
Paul’s Knockout Punch
In their eight-round rematch, the judges appeared to be a foregone conclusion until Paul stunned Woodley with a spectacular one-punch knockout in the sixth round that sent him to the ground.
Paul’s sixth victory came as a result of the violent stoppage, which put an end to his feud with Woodley, who he had defeated by split decision when they first met in August.
The fight’s judges’ scorecards have been revealed, and they show Paul had the upper hand with all three judges at the time of the stoppage.
Why don’t some people accept Jake’s Win?
On Saturday, Jake Paul’s triumph versus Tyron Woodley was allegedly manipulated to give the YouTuber the victory after fans spotted an alleged signal from the former to hit the deck.
In Tampa, Paul stunned former UFC star Woodley with a thunderous right hand in the sixth round, stunned Woodley, who had lost to the streaming star via split decision back in August.
However, video evidence from the rematch shows Paul twisting his right glove in a signal to his opponent only seconds before Woodley was knocked out. And fans have slammed the battle, claiming that it was staged in order for Paul to win.
